The demise of our democracy

While we are witnessing the demise of our democracy and everything this nation stands for, more and more disillusioned voters are beginning to realize that our nation elected a fascist monster whose only allegiance is to securing power for himself and padding the wallets of his wealthy friends at the expense of the American people.

 

Besides demonizing every minority to ensure the support of the white fake-Christian bigots who comprise his base, Trump has demonstrated his loyalty to the tenets of Director of Management and Budget Russell Vought’s Project 2025 to dismantle the federal government and eliminate rights and benefits crucial to our way of life.

 

Many of the voters who voted for Trump are beginning to realize that scuttling agencies and defunding vital programs will eliminate critical jobs, foundational industries, and civic protections that benefit all of our citizens.

 

Considering multiple air crashes in the past few weeks, perhaps dismantling the FAA to save money is not reasonable or necessary. Elon Musk’s DOGE posse wants to privatize NOAA – the weather service that tracks and predicts your weather; eliminate the Education Department in favor of individual states determining the curriculum for their students without national coordination or oversight; and dissolve the Consumer Protection Agency that protects citizens from fraud or gouging by banks, lending institutions, and credit card companies.  

 

The same fate awaits the National Institute of Health, which directs research and development of medicines that prevent diseases like childhood cancer, or the Center for Disease Control that monitors and prevents the spread of those illnesses through our population, or the Food and Drug Administration which ensures the safety of the food we eat and the drugs we take.           

 

Shutting down USAID has resulted in the cancellation of contracts with thousands of American farmers who grow the crops that are shipped to needy countries around the world. Many of those families will lose land that has been passed down through generations, which will be gobbled up by agricultural corporations, limiting your choices and increasing the prices you pay in the grocery store.

 

As they paw through every federal agency and fire thousands of critical civil servants who make the government machine run, Musk’s programmers have muscled their way into the restricted files of the IRS and Social Security to secure access to confidential financial information on every citizen in the country.

 

One has to wonder what bombs or backdoor connections are they installing in the software that runs our government and protects our citizens while they’re digging through our personal data?

 

In their unprofessional and inept rush to shrink the bureaucracy, Musk’s minions fired the experts who oversee our nuclear stockpile and the scientists monitoring the bird flu epidemic and deleted their accounts without bothering to keep their names and contact information, so they have no way to beg them to come back to work before things run amok and disasters occur. Think Musk’s teenage programmers have a clue about securing our nuclear stocks or taming raging viruses? Probably not.

 

Remember Trump’s campaign promises about not touching Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid? The current Republican budget proposal will make massive cuts in Medicaid coverage, targeting poor and working-class citizens to pay for a $4.5 trillion tax cut for the richest of the rich. And that’s just one line item in a very long document full of cuts to your rights and benefits.

 

The outrages will continue to mount every day, stripping away everything that makes this nation the envy of the world…until the American people march through the streets of every town and city demanding an end to this corrupt administration. Donald Trump is, was, and always will be a criminal who should spend the rest of his life behind bars instead of behind the Resolute desk in the Oval Office.
